i don’t have to

Or I could decide I won’t.

I eat when you’re hungry.

I stop talking when I have to listen to you.
I answer when you need to know something.
I don’t argue when you believe you’re right.
I hurry when you want it right away.
I wait when you’re not done.
I do it when you want me to.

I have to because it pleases you.

I don’t have to.
Because I don’t have to.

So I won’t.

“She thought: Let go—drop the controls—this is it.”

Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
